On October 3rd, 2025, the Michigan Legislature voted to add a new wholesale tax on cannabis.
Michigan leads the nation in per-capita cannabis sales because it’s affordable and accessible here. This new tax threatens that: businesses shutting down, prices skyrocketing, plus patients and everyday consumers struggling to get product they want and need are all eventual realities.
The cannabis industry is one of the few industries in Michigan built without taxpayer subsidies and now supports 40,000+ jobs across small businesses, growers, and workers. A 24% tax could crush local companies and erase paychecks.
My team and I went to an organized protest at the Capitol. From there it was clear that our industry needed a reliable source for information. At that point I decided we would begin pushing out updated information from our social media to provide trustworthy information to keep the members of Michigan's cannabis industry educated. This became a focal point of our social media plan as this category immediately became our most successful set of posts, making us the go-to account when legislative action was taking place in our state.
